I Need Another Certifying Birth

I am well into my doula studies. To certify in my course I need to be the doula at another birth. My last client birthed in April. So far, with motherhood, I haven't found another client. So to anyone reading my blog please put the word out. I'm so available. This summer felt like it needed to be mom time, but this fall seems like the time to doula. If you have any questions please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

All Hail, The Mighty Diva Cup!

OK, so menstruation has always been very unpleasant. I always leak. Spot the bed. My flow is very heavy. No tampon or pad is enough for even a few hours. Menstruation after having a baby has been ever more intense. Then I got the Diva Cup.

The Diva Cup is amazing! I am clean. There is no mess. Being clean down there feels SO much better. It made me sore, my flow must be acidic or something. Now it may not sound or look miraculous, but it is. This is by far the best period I've ever had. True I still feel like a slug. But not being sore, soiled, or even having to worry about spotting, is wonderful!!! And you can even pick it up on select store shelves. I picked mine up on Friday, when I felt this was coming. It was so nice to not have to wait for shipping. When you read the directions it sounds complicated. I have found it easier and more comfortable than a tampon. It sounds messier than a tampon or a pad, but my hands and girly bits are in fact so much cleaner. I love it so much I just had to share.

Why We Have Children.

Because they bring joy to this world and lighten the darkness with their light so fresh from heaven. My baby girl may not perform perfectly in every area, like trained show pony, but she definitely has got it together where is counts. Here are some examples:

  • She loves people. She freely shows her affection to even complete strangers.

  • She is kind and motherly to her doll and stuffed animals. The other day she comforted, verbally soothed and rocker her doll.

  • Yesterday she said please and later practice saying thank you... We haven't taught her to say this she just picked it up.

  • Last night was bad. I was feeling very low. Then she look up at me, smiled and handed me a card from a set of conversation cards. The card said: name 5 things that make you smile. I was so touched and awed by her timing..

This is why we have children. They make our lives and world better. They teach us by example, a better way to live. A life filled with love, joy, and wonder. No wonder the Savior said we should be like them. I want to be as good a person as my daughter and look forward to having and knowing many more sweet children like her.

The Newest Extreme Sport "Cave Nursing"

My friend Shannon came up with this title and said I should post about on my blog.

DH and I climbed Mount Timpanogos on Friday.
You are not allowed to bring strollers.
Oh wait we don't have a stroller. he-he
Our daughter was in the wrap on DH on the way up. When we got to the cave she wanted to nurse. So we switched the wrap to me and I latched her on, then off we went on the tour.
now this tour is fairly easy, but there are a number of places where you have to hunch, twist, squat, duck, and walk bent over for about twenty feet. I did and I did it all wile nursing a 15 month old. (I seriously have no idea how people manage without soft structure carriers.) Then I walked down the mountain with her fast asleep and still nursing in the wrap.
It was fun and tough. I highly recommend doing it... With a wrap.

Things I have breastfed.....

My friend is doing a great series on breastfeeding on her blog in honor of it.
In honor of it, I thought I would do a light hearted piece on the things my daughter has wanted me to breastfeed. When you read this keep in mind I am an not embarrassed or appalled by this. I think it's sweet and at times down right hilarious.
One day she brought me her much beloved doll and I think requested that I breastfeed said doll. Now if she wasn't actually making this request, then I'm the one who started what follows.
I have had put to my nipple by my daughter:
  • The fairy figurine pictured above.
  • A stuffed rabbit.
  • a crocheted banana.
  • A wood carved elephant on wheels
  • A baby shower invitation.
  • Basically any toy, stuffed animal, doll or object that she holds dear.

Yesterday I knew I needed to blog about this when I was sitting with here in the foyer at church. And when I offered her my breast, she put her plastic little people turkey to my nipple instead of her mouth. Which then elicited me to say: "I will nurse you, but I will not nurse your turkey at church". Funny how you hear yourself saying things you never imagined as a mother. Also at one point in my life I didn't want to nurse, it scared me. But I will tell you right now. I love it. Breastfeeding is wonderful, funny, sweet, bonding, healthy, and beautiful. Hooray for World Breastfeeding Week!
