A mother was born last spring... So was a blissful daughter. The birth was incredible and I look forward to my next. But I feel dissatisfied. I know now that some things could have been better. My midwife was very interventionist. Then during the birth she had a cold and remained in the background giving directions wile her apprentice did the real work. Which left me wondering how she normally behaves at a birth. My friend chose the same midwife. So I carefuly watched this midwife during my friends grueling labor last week. I am sorely disappointed in this midwife now and am left wondering how my birth could have been with someone different. I am very sorry for the way she treated my friend. I have some forgiving and grieving to do. I witnessed pain and sadness this week and apathy which is almost worse. The bright spot in all this was my friends doula. She was amazing. We talked a lot during the 36+ hour labor. I learned so much from her. I know I've chosen the right path. Doula work is invaluable. There is great strength and beauty in women sharing the labor and birthing experience.
It is my hope for us all to have births filled with love, peace, and joy.
And healing for all births that aren't.
