A House of Order

I am grateful that the passing of a Prophet does not mean chaos for our Church. I am grateful that the succession in the presidency is clear, simple, and orderly. It is another testament to me of the divinity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Since I didn't know exactly how all this worked, I wanted to share this with my limited blogging audience.

Succession in the Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

1. The First Presidency is automatically dissolved.

2. The two counselors in the First Presidency revert to their places of seniority in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Seniority is determined by the date on which a person was ordained to the Twelve, not by age.

3. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, now numbering 14 and headed by the senior apostle, assumes Church leadership.

4. The senior apostle presides at a meeting of the Quorum of the Twelve to consider two alternative propositions:
i. Should the First Presidency be reorganized at this time?
ii. Should the Church continue to function with the Quorum of the Twelve presiding?

5. After discussion, a formal motion is made and accepted by the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

6. If a motion to reorganize the First Presidency is passed, the Quorum of the Twelve unanimously selects the new president of the Church. The new president chooses two counselors from among the Quorum of the Twelve and the three of them become the new First Presidency. Throughout the history of the Church, the longest-serving apostle has always become the president of the Church when the First Presidency has been reorganized.

7. Following the reorganization of the First Presidency, the apostle who has served the second longest is sustained as the president of the Quorum of the Twelve. The only exception is when the second-longest-serving apostle has also been called into the First Presidency as a counselor, in which case the third-longest-serving apostle becomes acting president of the Twelve.

8. The president of the Quorum of the Twelve, along with the rest of the apostles, sets apart the new president of the Church through a formal laying on of hands."

Reunited with his sweetheart.

Our beloved President Hinckley has finally been reunited with "the girl of his dreams," and we must all say farewell to our beloved prophet dear. His work in the church has been impressive and his legacy is remarkable and lasting. Since April 2004, when his sweetheart passed away, I longed for their happy reunion.
But I must confess, when I learned of his passing I felt very sad. I didn't feel ready to say goodbye. I have learned so much from his teachings and wit... His voice now falls silent in this realm.

The way I learned of his passing was remarkable. We were spending a jolly Sunday evening with friends. Her cell phone told her she had received a text. It said that President Hinckley had died. We went online and the information wasn't on the news sites yet. Text poured in throughout the rest of our evening. We spoke of our happiness and sadness as we went about our evening as planned. Knowing what happens after death does remove a lot of it's sting. It is so remarkable how that knowledge changes everything

Goodbye, my dear prophet and teacher; you have given me so much.
Congratulations on your sweet reunion with your sweetheart, Marjorie.

Likeability is not enough!

I like asking people who they want for president and why. But when they don't base their opinions on voting record and issues, I wish I hadn't asked. Charm and charisma alone don't make a good president. I am so disappointed in the number of voters that don't know the issues or a candidates stance. But feel comfortable and confident in their voting decisions.
Well I don't feel confident in that, so here I make my plea. Everyone within the sound of my blog (I know that's like 2 or 3 people) go to the site www.ontheissues.org and inform yourselves.
I have yet to confidently pick a candidate. And I fully support every ones right to choose who they personally want for president or any other elected office. I do not support ignorance! Especially when it comes to our precious right to vote.
